WHY WE BELIEVE IN OUR PROGRAM
We do not believe that puppies or dogs are meant to spend their lives in a kennel. Labradors are social animals that adore their families and want to be with them, participating as a loved family member. By placing them in a loving home environment that will be their forever home from the time they are puppies, we are ensuring their happiness and best start in life. This gives Twisted Clovers the ability to maintain the highest quality care for our dogs by placing them in qualified homes.
Our Guardian Home Program allows for our chosen families to have our "pick of the litter" or "best of the best" or "cream of the crop" pups and become part of the process with us. It creates a great bond between us and our Guardians. Once the breeding dog has had her allotted litters, she is then spayed and sole property of the Guardian Family. Guardian Families are going to be an important part of our program. We will all get to know each other and become a unit as this journey begins. It's pretty amazing to be a part of bringing in top quality, healthy pups that will make so many families happy and change people lives.
The Guardian puppy is part of the Guardian’s family forever, while the breeding rights are retained by Twisted Clovers for a set number of litters, usually 3 litters per female, before being released. Once the Guardian Dog has completed her breeding career, she will be spayed at Twisted Clovers expense, and the dog will remain a forever pet of their Guardian Family! From the beginning the dog is a member of the family. We encourage bonding activities, such as taking obedience or other dog classes with you breeding dog. Like any well-loved pet, they need good exercise and lots of play. Some families can join therapy dog programs and visit hospitals, hospice, schools, and even libraries with their guardian dog.
Guardian Families are responsible for feeding our guardian dogs, proper dog food which is a must. We are feeding the most nutrient based dog food. You are also responsible for upkeeping the training the guardian dog has recieved. This means that you are working on commands and teaching your Guardian dog new ones. You are responsible for vaccinations, monthly heart-worm and tick prevention, yearly exams done by a veterinarian, proper fencing of your yard, or walks on a leash.
You as the guardian are also responsible for keeping a guardian dog away from any dog that is not neutered. This is crucial and will break the contract in its entirety. Our Guardian Family will not have our dogs outside for an extended period of time and they will be strictly indoor pets. You are responsible for the best interests of your Guardian dog.
Our Guardian dogs may have Health Test related appointments that require them to come back to Twisted Clovers or can be dropped off at an agreed upon vet clinic if both parties agree. There are 8 required health tests that need to be scheduled at age-appropriate times. These health test costs are covered by Twisted Clovers. When the Guardian female is in season, the Guardian Family is required to contact us immediately. An intact female usually has a heat cycle that will last between 14 and 21 days. During this time, we will need access to her for breeding related appointments once she passes all of her health testing. The female stays with us for 3-10 days during her heat cycle, to be bred. Once she has been bred, she can either remain with us until confirmed pregnancy and start nesting in her whelping box or return to her Guardian Family until two weeks before her due date. At that time, the Guardian dog will come back to stay with us throughout her pregnancy and will be returned once her pups are fully weaned approximately 7-8 weeks later. Guardian Families are welcomed and encouraged to visit with scheduled appointments while their Guardian Dog is here at Twisted Clovers. We work with our Guardian Homes using a detailed contract and we provide support and guidance all along the way, staying in contact through the year. At the end of the Guardian Home Family contract, the female dog belongs 100% to the Guardian Family.
Most importantly, we here at Twisted Clovers love our program and we are hoping for many successes. Our Guardian Families will be chosen carefully through an application. In the event of the program not working for the Guardian Families, the breeding dog must be returned to Twisted Clovers and the contract will be voided. Under no circumstance will any dog of Twisted Clovers be re-homed, this will result in a law suit.

HEAR FROM OTHER GUARDIANS
The Wilde Family Dog: Bliss
"Being able to be part of the whole process. We got her as a puppy and watching her grow has been amazing. We are looking forward to when she has puppies and visiting them! Being a part of that -that’s what I am looking forward to the most!! When three of us were at your house playing with those little ones-we all were looking forward to the whole experience. You don’t get that with just a dog in the home."
The Vancannon Family Dog: Lyra
"Being part of the guardian program has given our family the opportunity to own the dog of our dreams when we may never have gotten that opportunity. We get to give a mama dog that's part of a breeding program the opportunity to be part of a family while not taking care of babies. We got a puppy that already had a great foundation started as far as training goes. The opportunity to work closely with a wonderful reputable breeder is great too."
The Sundberg Family Dog: Cadence
"We think the Guardian program is amazing. We really appreciate that Brittany loves her breeding dogs enough to let them live with families, and get love and attention that they deserve. We’re also excited to be a part of the breeding process, and get to see our sweet dog as a mom one day, and also to see the puppies that come from her. We were very impressed with Brittany’s organization, thought and preparation in helping us with the Guardian program. She’s thought of everything and helped us understand every part of the program. Best of all, we have a beautiful little Black Lab living with us and love her."
The Johnson Family Dog: Angel
"I first met Brittany through my parents, who had welcomed her into their home for dog training purposes. My first impression of Brittany was that she is gentle, kind and compassionate yet also strong and committed. I had the opportunity to meet and get to know her through the training process at my parents, and that is how I found out about the guardian program. I was immediately intrigued. Brittany is dedicated to breeding quality labs but also committed to ensuring all dogs in the process receive the love and care they deserve. Brittany was extremely informative, and the introduction into the program was seamless - making it an easy decision."
